More proof that BN component parties report to UMNO

Well, what can I say? If one reads carefully,

"He also hoped that Barisan Nasional (BN) component party members such as MCA and MIC who have supported legalised sports betting to accept the government's decision."

The government's decision in this case means UMNO supreme council. Here's the statement:

"After taking into account various views, we are of the opinion that the majority did not agree the decision to issue the licence to Ascot Sports," he said after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting here.

Anyway, there's no way any country can stop illegal gambling. The best way is to legalize it but it must be executed without fear or favour. Perhaps, our government can take a drive down south to the 'little red dot' and see how they manage it. Giving out license to just 1 man, Vincent Tan, is beyond any layman's comprehension on why is that so. It just raises more question than answers.

I think I'd better stop commenting else, I may suffer a stroke and die. Tata for now...

Najib says no to football betting licence

UPDATED @ 06:32:31 PM 26-06-2010
June 25, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak capitulated to popular public opinion tonight when he announced the government will not issue a football betting licence, weeks after tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan said his Ascot Sports Sdn Bhd had received approval for an old licence.

"After taking into account various views, we are of the opinion that the majority did not agree the decision to issue the licence to Ascot Sports," he said after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting here.

"The government therefore decided that the licence will not be issued," said the finance minister adding that Ascot Sports has been informed of the decision.

He said the withdrawal was supported by members of the Umno supreme council.

Najib said the government had earlier agreed to issue the sports betting licence but with strict condition such as banning Muslim involvement in the activity.

On whether Ascot Sports would be compensated Najib said there is no such requirement in the law.

"Under the act, the minister of finance can withdraw anytime," said Najib, declining to say when the decision was made.

He also hoped that Barisan Nasional (BN) component party members such as MCA and MIC who have supported legalised sports betting to accept the government's decision.

Several Barisan Nasional (BN) parties had supported the move but Umno Johor, Perak and Youth wing opposed the licence saying the social cost outweighed the possible tax revenue.

Tan's listed Berjaya Corporation Berhad had announced the approval in a filing to Bursa Malaysia last May 12 but Najib denied it in Parliament on June 7.

Pakatan Rakyat governments in Penang, Selangor and Kedah said they will not approve business licences for football betting although Tan said he will try to persuade them.

He had promised to donate the RM525 million for his share of Ascot Sports sold to Berjaya Corp to his own charity, Better Malaysia Foundation.

Apart from saying that football bets will be offered through the telephone and available at 220 out of the 680 Sports Toto outlets which are not Muslim majority areas, Tan said operations would begin after the current Fifa World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi claimed two weeks ago that Ascot Sports will offer betting services for four major leagues — the English Premier League, the Italian league, as well as the Spanish and German leagues.

Nasrudin said that the sports betting company could not prepare itself to serve the World Cup because it was “too soon”.

PAS had also vowed to mobilise Malaysians to join its “100,000 march” to the Istana Negara this July 3 in protest over the Najib administration’s legalisation of sports-betting.

DAP’s Tony Pua claimed earlier this week to have documents to show companies controlled by Tan were proceeding with plans to start offering football betting by August and were raising RM800 million to finance operations.

The Petaling Jaya Utara MP told reporters in Parliament that on June 11, four days after the Finance Ministry had denied issuing any licence for football betting, Berjaya Sports Toto had issued an “information memorandum” detailing financing arrangements to raise RM800 million in loans for a period of ten years to finance its new business.

Berjaya Sports Toto is a subsidiary of Berjaya Corporation, and currently operates numbers forecast betting shops in peninsular Malaysia.

According to documents obtained by Pua, the principal adviser for the financing arrangements was Maybank Investment Bank Sdn Bhd, and lead manager AmInvestment Bank Berhad.

“They repeated the statement that Ascot Sports had been given approval for the reissuance of licence to carry out sports betting operations upon certain terms and conditions.

“They reiterated they have received approval. They stated that initially 220 of the Sports Toto outlets will be used as distribution points with expansion plans to accommodate more Sports Toto outlets in the future. The implementation was to be carried out in August or early September, in time for the EPL (English Premier League),” said Pua.

Another document produced by Pua was a credit analysis by MARC (Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad) on Berjaya Sports Toto.

A rating agency is usually needed to determine the “quality” of a loan.

The MARC report states that “the timeframe for the rollout of the sports betting games are yet to be finalised.”

“MARC has assigned AA- rating to this exercise to raise money by Berjaya Sports Toto and among the contributory factors to the AA-rating is stated on page 4, under recent development following a recent announcement (that it is) yet to be finalised.

“Basically, what we see is that the approval has been given, but the actual licence has not been given.

“As Finance Minister, Najib needs to rectify this... It has now become a stupid play of words,” said Pua.

Vote buying: Najib’s blatant denial amuses opposition

E-mail Print

By FMT Staff

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s statement in Parliament that the federal government “never promised voters programmes or projects during the by-elections, including the Sibu by-election," has tickled the opposition.

“He is a habitual liar. He is always twisting his words,” said Kuala Langat parliamentarian Abdullah Sani.

“It’s a habit with Najib that goes way back. When you read his comments it sounds quite funny.”

In a written response to Sibu MP Wong Ho Leng (DAP)’s question on Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s Department, while denying it had used development projects to woo voters during the Sibu by-election, admitted that it had approved 107 projects worth RM37.7 million during the campaigning period.

Wong had asked the government how much it had spent on the Sibu by-election.

"The programmes or projects approved were planned prior to the by-election, similar to other parliamentary or state constituencies throughout the nation," the response from the PM’s Department read.

Commenting on the statement, an amused Klang MP Charles Santiago said: “The people won’t buy that!”

“The public won’t easily accept Najib’s statement because the video clip on his controversial offer is now common knowledge. They won’t buy his denial.

“Besides it’s not just Sibu and the by-election in Hulu Selangor. Najib has been making pledges everywhere … he suddenly approved RM3million for Chinese schools (in Sibu) with a condition that their candidate must win in the polls.”

Santiago was referring to the video clip on Youtube where Najib had, on the eve of the hotly contested Sibu parliamentary seat by-election last month, openly offered Rajang park residents RM5million for flood mitigations if they voted his candidate Robert Lau May 16.

However Barisan Nasional, which held the Sibu parliamentary seat for a quarter century, lost it to DAP in a tightly fought race on May 16. BN polled 18,447 to DAP’s 18,845.

Najib declares SUPP candidate Robert Lau Jr as the BN's "fighting cock".

"He is our young fighting cock. He can work anywhere in the world, but he told me that Sibu has been good to his family.

"He said they owe a debt to Sibu, and that is why he is offering himself as candidate for Sibu.

"I stand by Robert Lau Jr and no one else. When he stands, he speaks for Sibu and he has my ear as prime minister," he said.

Najib promises to sign a cheque of RM5 million to resolve flood woes in Rejang Park if BN candidate Robert Lau wins.

"Let's make a deal. If you deliver me Robert Lau Jr on Sunday, I will sign the cheque on Monday," he said to a spirited response from the 1,000-odd crowd.

Hahaha... God is laughing, too.

Sorry, just can't help laughing at the similarity and the people who strive to follow the old ways. BTW, I'm a Catholic and I would surely like to have a Singaporean as a slave.

Oh, it is my sincere belief that the old ways applies only to the old times. It's just not eternal. We have to adapt and change with the times. So, Darwin's theory of evolution clearly is the way of life's' applicable.

Here's the article, as copied from http://malaysia-today.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=32659:switch-jew-for-muslim-and-it-would-remain-the-same&catid=20:no-holds-barred&Itemid=100087

I did not write the following. It was e-mailed to me and I thought it would make most interesting reading indeed. Now, if a Muslim had written this with regards to Islam, it would have turned out exactly the same. That is the ironical part about this piece. Anyway, read on and form your own opinion about the matter.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

In her radio show, Dr Laura Schlesinger said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following response is an open letter to Dr. Laura, penned by a US resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative:

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination ... end of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev. 24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I'm confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your adoring fan,

James M. Kauffman, Ed.D. Professor Emeritus, Dept. Of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education University of Virginia.

PS. It would be a dammed shame if I couldn’t own a Canadian.

Message to UMNO/BN...

Aiyooo.... please, lar. Every time you fellows think of spending on lavish projects like building a RM811 million palace and a new RM800 million parliament house, take a look at the below article. Doesn't it say something to you? You think that Zamry and Ho is doing a good job? I beg to differ. They are only embarrassing you as it only goes to show that they are cleaning up the shit that BN had been abandoning the poor people for the last 28 years. However, I must say that it's better late than never.

May God bless Malaysia.

Plight of poor family comes to light

TAIPING: Odd-job worker Shaharom A. Aziz and his family in Kampung Jelapang in Simpang here have been living in darkness for the past 28 years because their wooden home has no electricity supply.

“We use oil lamps and water for washing clothes comes from a well. A neighbour has been kind enough to provide drinking water from his tap,” Shaharom said during a visit by Bukit Gantang MCA chairman Datuk Ho Cheng Wang to his home recently.

Light help: Ho (fourth from right, in blue shirt) accompanied by Bukit Gantang MCA officials handing over the aid to Shaharom (in red shirt).

Ho handed over more than RM1,300 to Shaharom, enabling him to hire a contractor to connect electricity supply to the house.

He would also contact the relevant authorities to have piped water for Shaharom’s home.

Ho said the money came from an allocation provided by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir to alleviate the hardship of needy families.

The father of eight said none of his children were able to complete secondary education because of the hardships faced by the family.

Shaharom and his wife, Halimah Abd Rahman, both 58, thanked Dr Zambry and Ho for coming to their aid.

STRIKE while the iron is HOT.

Najib should do exactly that. Here's why I think so:

1) The poll rating is at its all time high. Perhaps, this is the highest poll rating in the world and put Obama to shame.
2) His Mentor, Dr. M, also agree.

Here's why he should not delay:

1) Ibrahim "tongkat" Ali and Perkasa may destroy his 1Malaysia concept/implementation.
2) Political turmoil among BN parties e.g. MCA, MIC and PPP
3) To reinforce critics that slammed him because he inherited his PM post from Badawi.

LONG LIVE NAJIB!!! May he get into and retain his popularity record in the Guiness Book Of World Record.

Najib: Polls date will surprise everybody

TUMPAT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says he will not dissolve Parliament to call for a general election in the near future just because a popularity survey favours him.

He said, however, the actual date of the election would be a surprise.

Without giving any indication, Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, said many factors had to be considered before the date was fixed.

“I cannot say one way or the other. If it (general election) happens, it will be a surprise.

Town buzz: Najib strolling with Datuk Mustapha Mohamed to Taxi Station in Kota Baru. — SAZUKI EMBONG/The Star

“What is important is to work hard in the spirit of 1Malaysia,” he told reporters after a meet-the-people session at the Machimmaram temple here yesterday.

Najib said this when asked to comment on a suggestion by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Tuesday that he should consider calling for a general election soon as he was currently enjoying the highest popularity survey ratings since assuming office in April last year.

Dr Mahathir had said that going by the latest survey carried out by the Merdeka Centre for Opinion Research, Najib stood more than a good chance of leading the Barisan to victory.

The Merdeka Centre survey which was made public last week showed that 72% of Malaysians were satisfied with Najib’s performance.

Divided into ethnic groups, the survey found 77% of Malays, 58% of Chinese and 80% of Indians were satisfied with the Prime Minister’s performance.

Najib said the Barisan must first concentrate on strengthening itself before calling for a general election.

The Barisan, he said, could not depend on one survey to decide when to call for the next general election.

Our Kings' new palace - my suggestion and dream.

With the ballooning of more than 100% of the original cost to build the palace within a 4 year period, here are some ideas for a WIN-WIN situation...

1) When completed, sell it to some super rich Malaysian man. A towering Malay! Perhaps, Najibs' brother? Afterall, he's a billionaire, wat. Say, the price to be RM861 million, a profit of RM50 million. I don't think the profit is too outrageous, right? I'm sure that the land cost is zero. Thus, the buyer will make more money when resold? Therefore, that profit is the bare minimum.

2) Return the RM811 million to the government and have His Majesty decree that it be passed on to the hardcore poor or use that money to provide water and electricity to the deprived. After all, the money is from His Majesty's subjects. BTW, I had toured most of Malaysia many times over and can provide the location and the people that are in dire need of this basic survival infrastructure. And, the majority are bumiputeras, too.

3) Use the RM50 million profit and build a palace, smack in the middle of the hardcore poor area. Again, I know of many such places. I'm very sure that with RM50 million profit, the palace can be very grandeur, perhaps close to the original design, if I appoint the contractor. If, there are any cost overruns, I'll personally take over this new palace project and get the funds to build it. I had "sold" myself in E-bay to get funds for the old folks' home in Ipoh before. So, I don't see any financial issue here. There are many billionaires in M'sia and I'm sure I can convince them to part with some to build a palace for our beloved King.

Here's the WIN-WIN part that I loved the most...

Our beloved King is now smack next to his subjects that are in dire straits. And, His Majesty will witness and feel their sufferings every time when he get to his palace. WHAT A PRECEDENT!!! I'm very sure that His Majesty, with his generosity in his decree, be the most loved King in the world. Now, finally, the King of Thailand is NOT the most loved in the world, liao. Record broken and National Geographic/History Channel will have to rewrite their documentary. Hehehehe...

LONG LIVE OUR KING!!! *bows 3 times...*

New palace costs RM811mil, no open tender

The construction of the new national palace at Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur has doubled in a period of four years, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

During the Question session this morning, Deputy Works Minister Yong Khoon Seng said the palace was estimated to cost RM400 million in 2006 but now costs RM811 million.

new istana negara 211106 the king with ministersContracts for the construction were awarded to three companies through direct negotiations instead of open tenders, said Yong.

Yong said that the contracts were awarded in such fashion because the national palace was “unique” and required additional security considerations.

His statement prompted a retort from Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping), who had posed the question earlier, that direct negotiations run contrary to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's pledges under the New Economic Model.

Nga argued that Treasury instructions stipulate that all public procurements of more than RM200,000 must be through open tender, but this was not observed for the new palace.

Make sure it won't collapse

Earlier, Yong explained that the project was divided into three zones - royal, administrative and supporting buildings - hence the three contracts.

new istana negara 211106 artist paintingThe construction of the main complex was awarded to Maya Maju Sdn Bhd at a sum of RM650 million, while a contract for a flyover from Jalan Duta to the palace would cost RM130 million was awarded to Ahmad Zaki Bhd.

The contract for the upgrading of an access road from Jalan Changkat Semantan to Jalan Istana costing RM32.5 million was awarded to Kejuruteraan Kenari Sdn Bhd.

The deputy minister said that the project is now 60 percent complete and is on schedule for completion by May 30 next year.

After Yong's explanation, Nga asked four supplementary questions. Among others, he sought a guarantee that the new palace will not collapse as was in the case of the RM270 million Gong Badak Stadium, Kuala Terengganu.

"How is that the estimated cost has increased by more than 100 percent within five years?" demanded Nga.

The deputy minister explained that the project was "special" because this is the first time the government is building a dedicated palace and that additional safety measures are required.

The new palace complex is expected to be completed by next February.
