Plight of poor family comes to light
TAIPING: Odd-job worker Shaharom A. Aziz and his family in Kampung Jelapang in Simpang here have been living in darkness for the past 28 years because their wooden home has no electricity supply.
“We use oil lamps and water for washing clothes comes from a well. A neighbour has been kind enough to provide drinking water from his tap,” Shaharom said during a visit by Bukit Gantang MCA chairman Datuk Ho Cheng Wang to his home recently.
Ho handed over more than RM1,300 to Shaharom, enabling him to hire a contractor to connect electricity supply to the house.
He would also contact the relevant authorities to have piped water for Shaharom’s home.
Ho said the money came from an allocation provided by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir to alleviate the hardship of needy families.
The father of eight said none of his children were able to complete secondary education because of the hardships faced by the family.
Shaharom and his wife, Halimah Abd Rahman, both 58, thanked Dr Zambry and Ho for coming to their aid.
